The majority of agent’s testimonials are now being received via online platforms. It’s essential that you have a backup copy saved and stored offline. Think of it as doomsday prepping for your business.
Have you got loads of super happy clients posting testimonials about how great you are on Rate My Agent or Facebook? Awesome! Give yourself a high-five, then save them so you have a backup copy.
WHY DO I NEED TO MANAGE MY TESTIMONIALS? AREN’T THEY ALL ONLINE?
Testimonials are the lifeblood of any real estate business. Remember when you first started real estate and you didn’t have any? You didn’t have any social standing, validation or proof that you were great at what you do.
Fortunately, with the rise of technology, requesting a testimonial from a client has never been easier. Just by flicking through a quick email or link, you can gather testimonials on almost any platform including Rate My Agent, Facebook and LinkedIn. Occasionally you’ll get an email or hand-written note, but most of them arrive online.
So with all these testimonials floating around across many platforms, it’s essential to manage them correctly to ensure you don’t lose any of them. After all, you’ve worked hard to earn them. Here are two reasons why one day they might just vanish:
1. Online platforms are a business. Like any business, they could shut down.
Facebook, Rate My Agent and LinkedIn are all businesses. Therefore, they could close their doors at any time. We saw this first hand recently in the wake of the Facebook privacy scandal when rumours began to circulate the platform could be shutting down. Thankfully it didn’t. But if it did, it could happen overnight without any warning. You could literally wake up to find that all your photos, videos and precious testimonials have disappeared into a black hole.
2. Online platforms often release updates and upgrades that malfunction on rollout.
These platforms often perform upgrades to systems and processes with very little to zero notice given to the user. Sorry to pick on poor old Facebook again, but recently this was the case with their rollout to the recommendation system from the previous 5-star rating system. There were glitches in the rollout and some agents did report “dropping” a few testimonials that seemed to disappear into oblivion.

HOW DO I SAVE MY TESTIMONIALS?
There are many ways you can do this but the following two methods below are quick and painless.
- You can copy and paste them into an excel spreadsheet.
- You can use the “snipping tool” in Windows (or Grab for the MAC lover) and save a screenshot.
You can then save the spreadsheet or screenshot under a generic testimonials folder on your google drive, Dropbox etc. This will ensure that no matter what happens to any of the online platforms, you have a backup copy of all your testimonials.
Another handy reason why you should centralise your testimonials – you or your PA will know exactly where to go when you’re looking for one to post on social media. Just head straight to your folder. No more fluffing around multiple platforms trying to find that killer review that Sally from Smith Street posted. It’s a massive time saver.
“Hot tip: As you soon as you receive a review or testimonial, make it an SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) for you or your PA to save it into the testimonial folder immediately.”
